The Diocese

A decisive step for the creation of Osun Diocese was taken on 12th April 1986 when the provincial standing committee at its meeting in All Souls' Church Bodija, Ibadan agreed that the Archbishop by virtue of Article II, Chapter XII and Article I, Chapter XIII of the constitution of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion, 1979) subject to compliance with the conditions laid down by the said Standing Committee should proceed to make all necessary arrangement to effect the creation of the said Diocese of Osun. The conditions laid down by the said Standing Committee and all other requirements necessary for the creation of Osun Diocese were subsequently met.

On the 2nd August, 1987, the Rt. Rev. Seth Oni Fagbemi at the Cathedral Church of St. Stephen, Oke-Aluko,Ondo was consecrated the Bishop of the said Diocese of Osun. Thus on Monday the 3rd day of August in the year of our Lord, One thousand, nine hundred and eighty seven, the biblical parable of the little mustard seed was sewn on the soil of Osun – a mission area has grown to a big tree, a Diocese: Diocese of Osun (Anglican Communion). On that 3rd of August 1987, the new Diocese of Osun was inaugurated and the Rt. Revd. Seth Oni Fagbemi was enthroned at All Saints' Cathedral, Ita Balogun Agoro, Osogbo.

Rt. Rev. Dr. Foluso Olugbenga Babatunji

The Rt. Revd. Dr. F.O. Babatunji was born towards the late 60s to the family Mr. & Mrs. Samuel Sunday Babatunji. The ministerial journey of Bishop Babatunji has taken him to serve in four Dioceses. He started as an agent in Ilesa Diocese. His Ordained ministry started in Ondo Diocese. He later served for nine years in Ibadan Diocese, under the Rt. Revd. G.I.O. Olajide, who preferred him Canon on his thirty-first birthday. He was later preferred Archdeacon by the Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph O. Akinfenwa, from where he was requested for by the Most Revd. Dr. Michael Olusina Fape, STM, (Yale), Ph.D (Aberdeen), Bishop of Remo Diocese, and the Archbishop of Lagos Province; he had been serving his Lord there, since April 2004 till his election as Bishop of Osun Diocese.

  • There shall be intense effort in developing our people to spiritual maturity through more Bible Studies, Seminars, Retreats and Bible School for our members.
  • We shall arouse the more the interest of our Youths in matters of God's Kingdom through spiritual and welfare care.
  • We shall consolidate the financial resume of our Diocese in such a way that the main focus will be actualizing our mission.
  • We shall develop our women to love God, love people, love life the more, be generous at heart, faith-filled in confession, loving in nature and inclusive in expression.
  • We shall discover gifts and deploy them where they can be of most use for the Lord.
  • Increase the tempo of Clergy meetings to foster unity and learning.

The former Bishops of the Diocese

The Diocese of Osun (Anglican Communion) was inaugurated on the 3rd of August, 1987, with the enthronement of its first Bishop, the Rt. Revd. Seth Oni Fagbemi (now of blessed memory), at All Saints' Cathedral, Ita Balogun Agoro, Osogbo. Bishop Fagbemi was known for his tireless work ethic and left behind a legacy of remarkable achievements during his 13 years of episcopacy. A man of deep humility and modesty, he was highly respected for his warmth, love, honesty, and unwavering integrity. His leadership laid a solid spiritual and administrative foundation for the Diocese and inspired the clergy and laity alike through his dedication and personal example.

Upon Bishop Fagbemi’s retirement in August 2000, the Rt. Revd. James Afolabi Popoola was consecrated as the second Bishop of the Diocese. He assumed office with a clear vision centered on evangelism, as emphasized in his inaugural sermon. Bishop Popoola quickly established the School of Evangelism, where voluntary evangelists were trained and deployed to preach the gospel and win souls for Christ. His episcopacy was marked by a strong emphasis on mission and spiritual growth, building upon the legacy of his predecessor while steering the Diocese into a new phase of expansion and outreach.

An annual joyful event where members across the Diocese come together to thank God for His blessings, offer their harvest gifts, and support the Church's mission and development.

Diocesan Carol

A festive gathering of worship, music, and scripture where the Diocese joyfully celebrates then birth of Christ through traditional and comtemporary carols, and heartfelt praise.

Power Night

The Diocesan Power Night is a quarterly vigil of intense worship, fervent prayers, and spiritual renewal where members across the Diocese gather to seek God's power and divine intervention.

Jesus Carnival

This is a day annual revival filled with vibrant worship, soul-lifting music, and powerful messages, uniting members of the Diocese in a joyful celebration of faith and the transforming love of Christ.

Osun Praise

Our annual Praise Concert that brings together numerous gospel artists who minister in diverse genres of music, creating a powerful atmosphere of worship, and celebration unto God.
